As part of the We The Peoples film festival, UCL UN Society hosted the UK premiere of 'Through the Fire' which featured the work of three remarkable Somali women. Dr Edna Adam, a UK-trained midwife, now runs a large hospital in Hargeisa; Dr Hawa Abdi who had been Somalia's first gynaecologist, designated a large family plot in Mogadishu to provide care for tens of thousands of needy people; and Ilwan Elman has set up a rehabilitation centre for young men, ex-soldiers and reformed terrorists alike, preparing them for a self-sufficient life.

After the film, Dr Edna who by chance is visiting the UK, spoke about her work and Sarah Winfield, the film's co-producer read a message from Dr Hawa. They were followed by reports from Ilwad Elman and Eunice Lau, the film's director, both speaking by live video from New York. They fielded questions from the capacity audience who contributed good ideas to how such 'good news' stories can reach a wider audience. .
