Water is a human right, say Ethiopian herders
13 November 2013

The 2013 Festival’s opening film challenged our assumptions on a basic human right, the right to drinkable water. The Well: Water voices from Ethiopia follows the Borana herders who gather with their livestock around their ancient, hand-excavated craters known as “singing wells,” which allow them to survive during long annual droughts. The herders sing as the raise the water to feed their beasts but not only theirs; not even their enemies can be denied access to drinkable water which they consider to be a fundamental human right. Lively discussion after the screening tackled this issue and those covered by the second film ‘E-Wasteland’
